The film adaptation of Elden Ring, directed by Alex Garland, scheduled for March 12, 1406 release; Cailee Spaeny joins the cast
According to the CinemaDrame News Agency, it has recently been announced that A24 Studios and Bandai Namco Entertainment plan to release a live-action film adaptation of the popular game Elden Ring on March 12, 1406 (2028). Alex Garland is responsible for writing and directing the project, with Keith O’Connor and Ben Whishaw starring in leading roles. The film is being shot using IMAX technology and is currently in production.
Alongside O’Connor and Whishaw, new cast members have also joined the project, including Cailee Spaeny, Tom Burke, Havana Rose Liu, Sonoya Mizuno, Jonathan Pryce, Ruby Cruz, Nick Offerman, John Hodgkinson, Jefferson Hall, Emma Laird, and Peter Serafinowicz.
Peter Rice serves as a producer alongside Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich from DNA Films, as well as George R. R. Martin and Vince Gerardis.
Garland, who has long been a fan of FromSoftware titles—especially Elden Ring—is reported to have personally proposed the adaptation to the game’s publishers, Bandai Namco and FromSoftware.
Elden Ring, released in February 2022 to widespread critical acclaim, is an action role-playing game set in a dark fantasy world, allowing players to explore vast environments and numerous dungeons. The game was directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki and its story is based on writings by George R. R. Martin, author of A Song of Ice and Fire, the book series that inspired Game of Thrones.
Since its release, Elden Ring has sold over 30 million copies worldwide and has received more than 400 Game of the Year awards. It ranks among the highest-rated video games in history, achieved one of the biggest launches on Twitch, and has been one of the most searched games on Google—solidifying its status as both a cultural and commercial phenomenon. Its global fan community remains highly active, continuously producing lore analyses, boss fight guides, fan art, gameplay strategies, and discoveries of hidden secrets.
